About Us

Valley Mills Friends is small and welcoming Quaker Meeting.  Our meeting room is simple, and  we gather in a mood of expectancy, believing that the Living Christ is present. We sing hymns and listen to a thoughtful message from our pastor. Silence is an important part of our worship as we wait on the Spirit of God.

 We are informal, and children are welcome.

Gatherings

Meeting for Worship begins at 10:30 am  on Sundays and usually lasts around 60 minutes.

Monthly Meeting for Worship with Attention to Business (business meeting) is on the second sunday of the month usually begining around 11:30.

Sunday School

Both Adult and Children's Sunday School is on the Second Sunday of the month from September-May.   Adult Sunday School Meets at 9:30am and Youth are Dismissed during the 10:30am Worship (after joys and concerns).  

We have 2 youth classes one for younger children usually under 8 where they read and play a bible story. They meet downstairs and their class is facilitated by 2 teen leaders.  The older youth meet upstairs with an adult volunteer (background checked) and discuss values, bible stories, and engage in more complex moral discussion and thinking.

Children are always welcome to stay in the meetinghouse with their adults.

What about my children on non-Sunday School Sundays?

At Valley Mills we welcome people of all ages and capacities. So bring your children and all their wiggles and noise. They are a gift.

 On Sunday's without Sunday school the pastor offers a "youth message" and then they are dismissed to either sit with their adults or are welcome to play downstairs or utilize the art supplies always set up in the youth room (just outside of the meeting room).  

In the meetinghouse entryway we also have several "busy boxes" for children to take to their seats. These boxes have little activities and toys for children to fiddle with. There are also books and coloring supplies on that shelf. 

Pitch-in

We have a pitch-in every other month following our monthly meeting  on the Second Sunday of the month.  Please bring a food item to share and together we make enough for everyone.  (Feb, April, June, August, October, December)

Refreshments with Friends

On the 4th Thursday of the Month Valley Mills Friends Gather at Bru Burger in Plainfield to socialize and eat together.  All are welcome.

Valley Mills Friends Meeting is a church of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers).

We are part of Western Yearly Meeting of Friends, and Friends United Meeting.
